White Buffalo Turquoise is often mistakenly referred to as turquoise because it was discovered in a turquoise mine and shares a similar formation process, but it is actually a combination of dolomite and aragonite, lacking the heavy metals that give turquoise its characteristic colors. This unique stone is primarily white with black and brown inclusions, in contrast to turquoise's blue-green-yellow hues, and has a hardness of 5.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for jewelry. Discovered in the late 1990s at the White Buffalo Mine in Tonopah, Nevada, it is a rare and highly sought-after gemstone.
